The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Matjhabeng is deeply concerned by the unacceptable service delivery conditions facing residents of Marupelo Street in Ward 14, Thabong.
What we continue to witness is nothing short of a collapse of basic municipal responsibilities under the ANC-led Matjhabeng Local Municipality.
Residents continue to endure deteriorating infrastructure, despite assurances by MMC of Infrastructure, Cllr Masina, the Director of Infrastructure, and the Foreman responsible for Matjhabeng Sewage. A contractor had been appointed to fix the street. To date, that contractor has never arrived on site.
To make matters worse, residents report that the ANC Ward Councillor has never convened a community meeting to address their concerns or provide clarity.
This is not the level of “infrastructure maintenance” that the community is expected to accept, and the DA refuses to remain silent.
On behalf of the community of Marupelo Street and the DA, I have since submitted a written question to Council so that the Municipal Manager can explain the delays, failed oversight and the whereabouts of the appointed contractor.
Additionally, a DA-led street meeting in Marupelo Street will provide the community with updates on the incomplete sewer project.
The people of Thabong are uniting behind the DA because they can see the difference genuine leadership makes in Ward 14.
We will continue holding those in power accountable until the contractor is held responsible and until any ratepayers are recovered.
The people of Thabong cannot continue living under such conditions without firm action and consequences.
