The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality will write to the Office of the Municipal Manager to take immediate action to restore water supply to the Masaleng community, which has been without running water for 3 years.
During an oversight visit, the DA found that residents are forced to fetch water from the streams near the reservoir when it is operational, rather than having access to clean water from their taps. Meanwhile, water flows into the streets, highlighting an apparent failure in service delivery.
We are appalled by this situation and will continue to pressure the Office of the Municipal Manager to intervene and resolve this matter urgently. It is unacceptable that, despite a functional water infrastructure, the community is forced to rely on alternative, potentially unsafe sources of water.
The DA demands immediate action to ensure that the residents of Masaleng have access to clean, reliable water from their taps. We will persist in our efforts to hold the municipal authorities accountable and advocate for the fundamental rights of the community to be upheld.
