The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Metsimaholo will closely monitor the municipality’s announced programme to repair sewer pump stations, ensuring that it is fully and successfully implemented. This follows our sustained pressure through petitions, a criminal case, and the involvement of the Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, Isaac Sello Seitlholo.
We hope it will be different this time, as this is not a time for PR stunts but a time to provide much-needed services and serve the people of Metsimaholo with diligence.
The municipality’s action was only made possible through the DA’s efforts: our petition drive, the criminal case we opened against the municipality, and the invitation of the Deputy Minister by constituency head and NCOP member Dr. Igor Scheurkogel.
These actions compelled the municipality to take urgent and meaningful steps to repair pump stations that were endangering public health and polluting the Vaal River in violation of nature conservation laws. This intervention is long overdue and must be fully and effectively implemented.
We see this as a crucial first step to ensure safe living conditions in Metsimaholo and protect the Vaal River’s environment.
