The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes the successful completion and handover of five Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) projects to Mafube Local Municipality on 29 August 2025.
These projects, delivered under tight deadlines after funds were regazetted, address years of stalled infrastructure caused by financial and administrative challenges, including attached municipal accounts and limited capacity.
These upgrades are not just about construction; they directly improve the daily lives of residents. A reliable water supply, functional sewer systems, safe recreational spaces, and environmental protection are essential for maintaining public health, safety, and community well-being.
The Fezile Dabi District Municipality stepped in to implement and monitor the projects, ensuring progress and accountability. Completed projects include:
- Tweeling boreholes and electricity upgrade – supplying 2.2 megalitres of clean water daily to approximately 6,465 residents, enhancing water security.
- Tweeling sewer pump station refurbishment – restoring functionality and eliminating foul odours.
- Frankfort/Namahadi sewer pipe bridge refurbishment – preventing sewage overflow, protecting the environment, and safeguarding public health.
- Zomba Sports Ground upgrade – installing a security fence and levelling 529 m², creating a safe, inclusive space for schools and community tournaments, fostering social cohesion, talent development, and active lifestyles.
- Villiers pump station refurbishment – ending sewage spillage into the Vaal River, ensuring environmental compliance, and protecting surrounding communities.
These achievements demonstrate that when municipalities are held accountable and projects are properly monitored, communities benefit. Residents deserve functioning infrastructure that supports their health, safety, and opportunities for growth.
