The DA in Nketoana welcomes the decision to dismiss the Director of Corporate Services, Ms Lisebo Motaung, for multiple acts of misconduct, including financial wrongdoing. She prescribed a service provider for procurement without following proper procedures, despite the advice of the Chief Financial Officer.
Ms. Motaung was initially investigated by an independent investigator, who found that there were grounds for her to be disciplined. It is worth noting that the director voluntarily opted not to participate in this investigation process, including the subsequent disciplinary hearing, which ultimately found her guilty on all charges. This decision raises concerns regarding the process and transparency expected from senior managers.
This is also the same director who previously made statements that caused concern regarding their appropriateness. While this behaviour was not formally disciplined, we note the dismissal as a step towards addressing problematic conduct. Ms. Motaung was also involved in presiding over the irregular appointments of 74 employees, despite only 43 positions being advertised.
We support this decision, as it helps restore a culture of accountability highlighted by the Auditor General. Where misconduct goes unpunished, ill-discipline grows, as seen here.
The DA will ensure everyone involved in the irregular hiring of 74 employees is held accountable. Ms Motaung’s dismissal is just the start.
We remain committed to restoring discipline and enforcing accountability in the municipality.
