The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Moqhaka Municipality will write to the Municipal Manager, Portia Tshabalala, to give immediate attention to the crippling effects of prolonged vacancies within the municipality’s technical portfolio.

With a staggering 345 vacancies, the Electrical, Roads and Storm Water, Water and Waste Water, and Fleet Management departments are severely understaffed, leading to subpar service delivery and an over-reliance on costly contractors.

Key concerns:

  • Service delivery suffering: The shortage of qualified personnel has led to inadequate services, negatively impacting the quality of life for residents.
  • Inflated costs: Outsourcing to external contractors at exorbitant prices is draining the municipality’s resources, while residents with relevant skills remain unemployed.
  • Economic impact: Millions of rands are being funnelled out of Moqhaka’s economy, instead of stimulating local growth and development.

The DA demands that the municipality prioritise filling these critical vacancies to restore effective service delivery and alleviate the financial burden on taxpayers.

By employing qualified residents, the municipality can inject much-needed expertise and stimulate economic growth within the community.

We expect a swift response and concrete actions to address these vacancies and revamp the municipality’s approach to service delivery.

Let’s work together to build a brighter future for Moqhaka by prioritising the employment of local talent and investing in our community’s growth and development.
