The Democratic Alliance (DA) will formally call on the Municipal Manager of Mantsopa Local Municipality to submit a quarterly report to Council, in line with the 28 February 2025 Council resolution, detailing progress on implementing the findings and recommendations of the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC).

Residents of Dipelaneng and Hobhouse continue to be exposed to an unfriendly environment due to a lack of service delivery from the ANC-run Mnatsopa municipality.

Mantsopa continues to disregard the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa on the objects of the local government, which is to ensure the provision of services to communities in a sustainable manner.

Despite the report of the South African Human Rights Commission on the state of service delivery at local government, which found Mantsopa municipality guilty of violating human rights by polluting the primary sources of water with sewage spillage, the municipality continues to leave sewage spillage unattended.

We embarked on a follow-up oversight at Dipelaneng sewage treatment plant, which is still not operational and causes a high level of sewer spillages around Dipelaneng and Hobhouse.

Leeuw River, which is a primary water source around this area, is at risk of being contaminated, putting the health of residents at risk.

By holding officials accountable through regular progress reporting, we will continue to push for sustainable solutions that protect residents, restore dignity, and safeguard essential water sources.
