The Democratic Alliance (DA) will formally hold the Metsimaholo Municipality accountable in the next council meeting by asking questions about the ongoing breakdown of the municipal waste compactor fleet. It will seek clear answers at the next council sitting regarding the mechanical failure of a brand-new truck.

Residents across Metsimaholo are feeling the impact of an ongoing crisis in the municipality’s Waste Management Department.

According to recent discussions held during a municipal portfolio meeting, all 12 municipal compactor trucks are currently out of service, and now, even the brand-new truck meant to improve the situation has already landed in the mechanical workshop.

When officials were asked during the meeting about what went wrong with the new truck, no clear explanation could be provided.

As it stands, the Metsimaholo is relying on a rented compactor truck to continue delivering basic waste collection services. This temporary solution comes at a financial cost and raises questions about the long-term sustainability of service delivery in the area.

Reliable waste collection is a basic service that residents expect and deserve. The complete breakdown of the municipal fleet, including a brand-new vehicle, is not just concerning but points to deeper issues that require urgent attention.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed and hold the municipality accountable through public forums, ward meetings, and direct communication with councillors.
