The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes the confirmation that the Department of Education will budget for and construct a permanent school in Langenhovenpark, rather than resorting to temporary classrooms.

This confirmation was given by the Head of Department (HOD) for Education during a Portfolio Committee meeting, following persistent pressure from the DA. Through the hard work of the DA in the legislature, and the firm push by the DA on a Ward level in Langenhovenpark, the Department has now committed to prioritising a long-term solution to meet the educational needs of this fast-growing community.

The DA has consistently argued that temporary classrooms would not address the urgent demand for proper school infrastructure, and that only a permanent facility can provide learners with the dignity and high-quality environment they deserve.

It was further emphasised that before construction commences, a comprehensive impact study must be undertaken. The DA has insisted on this step as existing services and infrastructure in Langenhovenpark are already under pressure. Proper planning will ensure that the new school is sustainable and functional and does not worsen the current strain on water, electricity, sanitation, and road networks.

This will have a positive impact on the community of Langenhovenpark and the surrounding areas, who have long been calling for a permanent school to accommodate the growing number of children in the area.

We will continue to monitor the Department to ensure that this commitment is honoured, that the impact study is completed, and that construction begins without unnecessary delays. The DA remains committed to fighting for quality education, proper infrastructure, and accountable governance in Mangaung and across the Free State.
