The Democratic Alliance (DA) will ensure that the Nala Municipality urgently prioritises the development and maintenance of sporting grounds in Kgotsong, Bothaville, by writing to the municipal manager.

We will also ensure that the municipality invests in community-based sports infrastructure and collaborates closely with community leaders to find sustainable solutions for the youth of Kgotsong.

The lack of sporting infrastructure in the community is a significant concern, leaving many young people without safe spaces to engage in sports, recreation, and talent development.

Sport is more than just a physical activity. It has the potential to unlock growth, discipline, and many other opportunities for young people. In Kgotsong, the dreams of many aspiring athletes are being cut short because they lack the facilities to train, compete, and showcase their skills. The youth are instead left vulnerable to negative social influences such as crime, substance abuse, and unemployment.

The frustration among youth in Kgotsong is growing, causing anger among some of them. Young people feel neglected and forgotten. There are few opportunities for youth in Kgotsong to explore, and job opportunities are scarce. Sports may be one of the tools that might assist in the current dire situation the youth are facing.

Some community members have resorted to creating some informal soccer grounds. These initiatives have provided fields where youth can practice and play soccer. The informal soccer grounds manage to keep at least some youth off the streets and away from crime and drugs.

With a huge number of youth in Kgotsong getting involved in mischievous activities. It is evident that without urgent intervention, the potential of an entire generation will continue to be wasted.

The youth of Kgotsong are not asking for state-of-the-art sporting facilities. They are requesting facilities that will enable them to grow, thrive, and make a positive contribution to society. Sporting grounds are not a luxury but a necessity for building healthier, safer, and more united communities.

The DA will involve community leaders in developing solutions to address the current situation that the youth of Kgotsong are facing. For the better future of the youth of Kgotsong, vote for DA in the upcoming 2026/7 Local Elections.
