The DA in Letsemeng will push for five critical priorities to restore stability, strengthen governance and improve service delivery in Letsemeng Local Municipality. These priorities focus on ensuring capable leadership, filling long-standing management vacancies, addressing municipal debt, protecting public funds, and strengthening institutional capacity so residents receive the quality basic services they deserve.

The DA’s five key priorities for Letsemeng are:

  1. Appoint a qualified and capable Municipal Manager, as Letsemeng has been without a Municipal Manager since 2023.
  2. Appoint Section 56 managers who are directly accountable to the Municipal Manager, as all these positions have been vacant for five years.
  3. Address Eskom and water board debt by ensuring that the municipality enters into affordable and sustainable repayment arrangements.
  4. Ring-fence municipal grants to ensure that funds received are used for their intended purposes and benefit the communities they are meant to serve.
  5. Strengthen institutional capacity to enable the municipality to deliver quality basic services to Letsemeng residents and improve co-operation with government departments.
  6. Letsemeng residents have long suffered under the ANC, as public trust in the so-called liberation movement has eroded.

The ANC’s failure to tackle long-outstanding issues in Letsemeng has left communities suffering for too long, whether through water cuts, power outages, economic decline, and, most of all, corruption.

The DA will fight to restore public trust and ensure professional, capable individuals deliver services. These non-politically connected individuals will further advance a few interests.

Young and old have lost all hope under the ANC, and we will ensure the majority of marginalised individuals in Letsemeng get opportunities.

Communities no longer feel safe, as crime is another issue the municipality has failed to address by collaborating with the police to ensure our residents’ safety.
