The Democratic Alliance will demand an independent technical inspection, the release of all payments and completion certificates, and consequences for anyone who approved work that was not properly delivered.

Allegations that pothole-repair work on the Christiana–Hertzogville route towards the Dealesville/R64 intersection has stalled since March are deeply concerning, leaving the road riddled with potholes.

Provincial records show the last resealing and fog-spray package for this corridor, with a first claim of R2,738,944 in February 2026 and a second of R14,007,423 in March 2026. That is R16,746,367 claimed in two months alone. A reported 31 people were employed during this period. Yet motorists are still forced to navigate a dangerous, visibly deteriorating road.

Public money cannot vanish into paperwork while residents pay the price in damaged vehicles, delayed travel and unsafe conditions. A claim is not proof of quality work. A declaration of completion means nothing if the road itself tells a different story. This is the kind of chaos voters have the power to end.

The DA will demand that the Department immediately disclose whether any further balance was paid, the scope and quantities of work certified, inspection reports, photographs, invoices, and the completion certificate. We will also demand to know who signed off on the work and on what basis.

If an independent assessment finds the work incomplete, defective or improperly certified, the contractor and subcontractor must be compelled to correct it at their own cost. Officials who authorised payment or certification without proper verification must face disciplinary action and, where warranted, criminal consequences.

The DA will not accept a road that remains a disaster zone while millions of rand are allegedly claimed for repairs. Taxpayers deserve roads that are repaired, not recycled excuses. Stop the chaos. Vote DA on the 4th of November.
