The DA raises serious concerns about the ongoing uncertainty over vacant senior management positions in Moqhaka Municipality. Some positions have been vacant for 5 years.

On 10 September 2026, the Special Council met to address these vacancies. However, questions have since been raised about whether the appointments were properly concluded, as the Speaker appears not to have taken or recorded a formal vote, despite extensive discussions.

On 8 October 2026, the MEC for COGTA served Executive Mayor Cllr Tau with an interim interdict, preventing the appointments from proceeding because the process was allegedly flawed. Council had until Monday, 12 October 2026, to decide whether to abide by or oppose the interdict.

At a Council meeting, the DA voted against the ANC’s proposal to seek a legal opinion to challenge the MEC’s interdict.

The MEC also raised concerns about the appointment of the Director of Corporate Services, who was serving as Acting Municipal Manager at the time and presided over the process that considered senior management appointments.

With less than three weeks remaining before the local government elections, Moqhaka Municipality is still facing uncertainty over these critical appointments.

The people of Moqhaka deserve answers.

Who will ensure accountability among municipal officials while these key positions remain vacant or disputed? Why has the appointment process once again become the subject of legal intervention?

Moqhaka needs transparent, lawful and accountable governance, not continued uncertainty over the leadership responsible for delivering services to our communities. Residents have the power to stop the chaos and start the delivery by voting DA.
