The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Matjhabeng has submitted formal questions and a motion to council, urging the Municipality to prioritise the clean-up of these areas and to install skips in high-traffic zones.
The residents of Thabong Ward 29 are calling on the Matjhabeng Local Municipality to urgently address the escalating problem of illegal dumping in the area.
Several locations have now become health hazards and unsightly dumping grounds, threatening the well-being and safety of our community. As most dump sites are located near schools, they pose health risks to the public.
The most severely affected areas include Dr Mongoma Street, the vicinity around Lebohang Secondary School, and Mxi Street; yet there are many more.
These dumping sites pose serious risks, including the spread of disease, rodent infestations, and environmental pollution. They also endanger learners and pedestrians who use these routes daily.
We therefore call on the Municipality to take the following immediate actions:
- Deploy waste management teams to clear all illegal dumping sites without delay.
- Provide refuse skips or containers at strategic locations to discourage future unlawful dumping.
- Implement regular monitoring and strict enforcement to prevent residents.
Swift and decisive action is needed to restore cleanliness, safety, and dignity to the people of Thabong Ward 29.
