The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ngwathe will write to the Municipal Manager, the MMC for Public Safety and Transport, and the Ngwathe Traffic Department to ensure immediate action is taken to repair potholes, repaint road markings, and restore visible street names across our towns.
The municipality’s own Roads and Stormwater performance report reveals that 0 m² of potholes were repaired in the first quarter of 2025/2026, despite an annual target of 6,000 m².
With the rainy season upon us, every small pothole left unattended will rapidly expand, turning minor defects into significant hazards. Without maintenance, the already deteriorating road network will continue to deteriorate, increasing repair costs and putting motorists at greater risk.
Over the past two months, Ngwathe’s own Roads and Stormwater performance reports show 0 m² of potholes repaired in the first quarter of 2025/2026, despite an annual target of 6,000 m² for maintenance, highlighting the municipality’s lack of urgency across the board.
Residents continue to dodge craters along roads in Parys, where faded lines and missing signage make intersections hazardous, especially at night and during wet weather.
The lack of clear road markings has turned several high-traffic areas into accident-prone zones. Emergency vehicles and visitors alike struggle to navigate because many street name signs are damaged or missing. This reflects an administration that no longer cares about basic service delivery or public safety.
Every resident deserves safe, properly maintained roads. The DA will continue to fight for accountability and ensure that taxpayers’ money goes where it should, back into our streets, not into excuses.
