The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Moqhaka Local Municipality will take action to ensure that the Department of Human Settlements addresses the infrastructure challenges urgently, which are delaying the long-awaited issuance of residential sites in Extension 10, Koekoe Village. Unless these obstacles are resolved, residents will continue to suffer unnecessary delays in land ownership, while the municipality loses critical revenue from rates and taxes.

The first uphill challenge is the need for the upgrade of the Kroonstad Water Treatment Plant, which must run at above 80/90% to supply water for residents of the newly developed sites in Extension 10.

The second challenge is the urgent need to complete the refurbishment of the Constania Waste Water Treatment Plant, ensuring it is in good condition and has the capacity to treat the raw waste generated from the newly developed area.

These challenges need to be addressed with urgency to ensure that the funds of the National and Provincial Human Settlement Department are utilised effectively and that the residents of Moqhaka can benefit in terms of land ownership. Lastly, the municipality will be the sole winner, as an additional collection of revenue from rates and taxes will be deposited into the Moqhaka’s finance department.

The DA further calls on the Department of Human Settlements to guarantee complete transparency during the allocation process.

This will ensure that the ANC-led Minority Government does not use the provision of sites as a dangerous tool to canvass votes from ordinary residents of Moqhaka as we approach the 2026 Local Government Elections.

We further request that the residents of Moqhaka utilise their most valuable weapon, which is to vote for a government that can provide basic services and ensure the creation of jobs to revive the local economy.
