The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Dihlabeng will urgently request that the Public Works and Infrastructure department from the municipality clear and maintain the blocked stormwater drains in Kgubetswana, particularly in the road section known as “Congo”.
After an oversight visit, focusing on the road section commonly known as “Congo”. The visit revealed that stormwater drains in the area are severely blocked with debris, overgrown grass, and waste material.
With the onset of the rainy season, this blockage has resulted in water pooling for several days after rainfall, creating foul odours and becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
These conditions pose serious health risks to residents and reflect an apparent lapse in regular maintenance and service delivery.
We view the current state of the stormwater drainage system as unacceptable. Residents deserve a clean and safe living environment, free from health hazards and the risk of waterborne or mosquito-related illnesses.
Municipal infrastructure must be maintained proactively, particularly during the rainy season when adequate drainage is critical.
We further call for a consistent programme of inspection and cleaning of all stormwater drains in Kgubetswana to prevent recurring blockages and the associated risks.
Our councillors will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that corrective measures are implemented and maintained.
The DA remains committed to accountable governance, clean communities, and reliable service delivery for all residents of Dihlabeng.
