The Democratic Alliance (DA) will take action by monitoring the waste management crisis in Moqhaka and formally writing to the Council to expedite the filling of over 120 vacant positions in the Waste Management Department. These posts have already been budgeted for, yet remain unfilled.

The DA in Moqhaka raised concerns about the growing shortage of personnel/general workers at the waste management department, which is responsible for collecting refuse from 35114 households across the Moqhaka local municipality.

This leads to the municipality paying more for overtime as they strive to meet the deadline, and that also impacts the personnel the municipality currently has, as they often submit medical certificates.

The DA urges the municipality to fill these positions, as it is budgeted for; there are more than 120 vacancies that need to be filled & service delivery suffers.

We will monitor this situation and prioritise the interests of our communities.
