The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ngwathe has written to the municipal manager, Dr. FP Mothamaha, to prioritise the fixing of the dangerous, non-working streetlights in Heilbron.
The municipality completely neglects service delivery. I have been monitoring the streetlights in Heilbron Town and the Vegkop residential area for over a month, and it’s time the municipality takes action to address these long-overdue service delivery issues.
We specifically call on the municipality to repair the many non-working streetlights, which have created unsafe conditions for residents and businesses. This urgent request directly addresses increased criminal activity, break-ins, and burglaries in the area.
Residents are angry and frustrated, and came out to sign the petition to force the municipality to deliver to the people it serves.
The DA formally requests that the municipal manager address the urgent repair of all non-working streetlights in Heilbron as a top priority. The municipality is responsible for maintaining this essential public infrastructure.
Residents have been failed for too long; that’s why a court recently denied an appeal to keep the municipality council in charge, as they’ve failed the residents of Ngwathe.
We urge the municipality to recognise that reliable service delivery is non-negotiable, starting with the immediate repair of streetlights. Where the DA governs, we act to deliver.
