The Democratic Alliance (DA) will urge the Letsemeng Municipal Council and its Technical Department to develop an urgent contingency plan to ensure residents have access to water during dry periods resulting from canal maintenance.

Without such a plan, households in Jacobsdal, Koffiefontein, and Luckhoff face severe disruption to their daily lives.

Parts of Letsemeng, Jacobsdal, Koffiefontein, and Luckhoff are supplied with water through external bulk water suppliers.

However, what is of grave concern is how the municipality handles the matter to assist communities in accessing water during canal maintenance.

Communication is done haphazardly to communities, with no proper indication of how long it will last.

Council has yet to sit and find possible ways to mitigate the effects of the dry weeks.

As the DA, we strongly believe that the matter requires a collective effort to mitigate and find ways for our community members to access water.

The different towns are already experiencing water shedding, and the municipality is doing little to assist during the maintenance of the canals.

We will push for the technical department to develop a contingency plan during the dry week, and the council must also explore possible ways and means to assist during these periods.
