The Democratic Alliance (DA) congratulates every learner, parent, teacher, and stakeholder who contributed to the achievements of the Class of 2024 in the Free State. Your dedication and hard work in challenging circumstances are commendable.

The Free State has maintained its top position in the country for several years, achieving a pass rate of 91%. This accomplishment is noteworthy, especially given the Free State Department of Education’s ongoing financial challenges and inability to curb the large dropout rate among high school learners.

Many matriculants now face an uncertain future, with limited job prospects and scarce tertiary education opportunities. The lack of a comprehensive plan to address these issues leaves the 62% unemployed youth of the Free State vulnerable and ill-prepared for the next phase of their lives.

The DA in the Free State will continue to hold the Department of Education accountable, particularly during upcoming budget debates in the Free State Legislature. We will push for the optimal allocation of resources to ensure the Classes of 2025 and beyond receives the support and tools necessary to excel.

Furthermore, the DA will demand that the current ANC government translate its educational plans into concrete action. Political rhetoric alone will not address the critical challenges facing our education system and our youth. The DA remains committed to advocating for a future where every learner in the Free State is equipped to succeed.
