The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Metsimaholo Local Municipality has formally opened an inquiry with the Hawks in the Free State to investigate the incomplete Deneysville Sports Complex project.

Despite more than R7 million being spent, the project remains unfinished, raising serious concerns about financial mismanagement and possible corruption.

The DA has long raised alarms over the lack of progress on the sports complex, which was intended to provide much-needed recreational facilities for the community. Instead, residents have been left frustrated by continuous delays and broken promises, with no clear timeline for the project’s completion.

Following an oversight visit to the site, DA representatives found that construction had completely stalled, with no visible work being done. The situation raises urgent questions about how funds were allocated, whether proper project oversight was in place, and whether contractors delivered on their commitments.

The DA is taking decisive action by calling on the Hawks to launch a full investigation into the project. It is unacceptable that millions of rands have been spent with no tangible results while the community is deprived of essential recreational infrastructure.

DA Councillor Phemelo Tabile stated: “There are significant questions that need answers, and we have no choice but to request the Hawks to investigate what has gone wrong.”
