The Democratic Alliance (DA) will urgently call on the Metsimaholo Local Municipality to rectify the unhygienic conditions at the Vaal Dam Waterfront.
We urge the municipality to implement weekly rubbish bin cleaning to prevent overflow and litter accumulation. Furthermore, the DA demands the upgrading of existing toilet facilities, which have fallen into disrepair due to vandalism. These actions will ensure that visitors have access to clean and functional restrooms.
Residents of Oranjeville have reported instances where municipal rubbish truck drivers have refused to empty bins or collect loose rubbish, claiming it is not their duty. The DA has formally requested the Manager of the Municipal Parks division to respond to these concerns and take the necessary actions to improve cleanliness and hygiene at the Vaal Dam Waterfront.
As of this press release, the DA has yet to receive a response from the Municipal Parks division regarding these pressing issues.
The current unhygienic conditions at the Waterfront cast a negative shadow over the tourism industry in Oranjeville. Many fishermen travel from afar to enjoy this long stretch of waterfront. However, the unkempt environment may deter potential visitors, adversely impacting the town’s tourism revenue and overall reputation.
The DA will continue to hold the Metsimaholo Municipality accountable, ensuring it meets its constitutional obligations to provide essential services to the community.
Residents of Oranjeville deserve reliable service delivery, including the maintenance of cleanliness at the Vaal Dam Waterfront.
