The Democratic Alliance (DA) will urgently engage the Metsimaholo Municipality’s Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Technical Services to resolve the long-standing issue of leaking water meters in the municipality, especially Zamdela’s Phases 1 to 5. This action aims to secure the procurement and distribution of functional water meters and ensure accurate billing for residents.
Over 100 leaking water meters have left the community grappling with incorrect billing, no meter readings, and immense financial stress. Adding to their distress, the municipality has failed to supply new water meters, compounding the problem for years.
The effects are dire: households cannot accurately pay their water bills, causing widespread frustration and financial insecurity. The DA recognises the urgent need to address this issue and demands accountability and swift intervention from the local government.
The DA’s plan includes pressing the MMC for immediate resources to replace faulty meters and implementing a clear timeline to resolve this crisis. Doing so will restore fairness in billing and relieve the financial burden on Zamdela residents.
The community deserves a responsive government that prioritises its basic needs, and the DA remains committed to holding the municipality accountable until this problem is resolved.
