Crime has become so rife in the country and small towns are not spared. The small town of Boshof in Tokologo Local Municipality woke to the news of a decomposed female body found on a dumping site in Seretse on Tuesday morning. It seemed the body had been buried in a shallow grave with the hand sticking out.

A resident who was looking for firewood to warm himself found the body. Violent crime against women, in particular, is on the rise in the area.

In 2021, this community was shocked when the body of a young woman was found in the same vicinity. She had been stabbed multiple times allegedly by someone she was dating. Afterwards, there were no other cases of murder until this one surfaced. Four young women have been reported missing in the past two weeks in the area.

The community is now living in fear. The Democratic Alliance (DA) pleads with the community to be vigilant and work with the police. It is time to revive Community Policing forums and our spirit of UBUNTU. We cannot sit back and watch while lawlessness takes over our livelihood. We will fight crime and criminals working together with law enforcement agencies as the community. We must unite and fight for our children to live in safe communities free of crime and thuggery tendencies.

Community members must report all and any suspicious activities to the police. In these trying times, the DA sympathises with all the families that have reported their children missing and urges everyone to work together with the police to resolve these cases. We further send our condolences to the family of the deceased young woman.
