The DA opposes the Executive Mayor’s alleged directive for his office staff to engage in ANC-related activities during official hours and using municipal resources. This is unacceptable, especially considering that these officials are remunerated through residents’ contributions.

A voice recording has surfaced wherein the Executive Mayor of Matjhabeng purportedly conveyed to his office officials that engagement in ANC activities is imperative for their roles within the Executive Mayor’s Office. This stance starkly contrasts with the Mayor’s public assertions of professionalising and depoliticising the administration to cater to all Matjhabeng residents.

Since assuming office in 2021, Executive Mayor Khalipa has consistently expressed his commitment to depoliticising municipal operations to prioritise service delivery to Matjhabeng’s rate-paying residents. As recently reaffirmed in the ordinary council session on March 26, the Mayor emphasised the absence of cadre deployment in Matjhabeng.

Between January 29 and April 8, 2024, spanning 11 weeks, residents of Matjhabeng have faced service delivery disruptions due to the actions of municipal employees and the ANC political leadership. The community bears the brunt of inadequate guidance and direction from the Matjhabeng ANC leadership in addressing municipal challenges.

We will lodge a formal complaint to the Speaker to ensure an investigation is conducted into the Mayors actions.

On May 29, 2024, South Africans have an opportunity to address the misuse of government resources and cadre deployment by supporting the Democratic Alliance, a party that advocates for the welfare of South Africa’s populace.
