Today marks an important day for residents of South Africa and the Free State. We must reflect on the path that has led us to where we are as a nation 30 years into a democracy, the sacrifices made and what we have gained from them.
As we celebrate Freedom Day, we must remember that one of the most important freedoms we have in South Africa is the freedom to participate in elections. We must use this freedom in the province to bring a stop to the criminality and thievery which has resulted in residents being trapped in poverty.
Our province is in the worst state it has ever been, and our economy is on life support. Our roads are dismal, water and sewerage infrastructure have almost completely collapsed, municipal services are far and few, unemployment remains high, and our public hospitals and clinics are in dreadful condition.
One of the DA’s core values is Freedom because access to opportunity gives life and meaning to our hard-won freedoms. We believe every South African must have the chance to succeed in life. Residents must use their power on 29 May to vote for a DA government with a proven track record of clean governance and the earnestness to put residents first.
