The Mayoral Imbizos held in various towns of Mantsopa Local Municipality reeks of electioneering. An Imbizo is a way for the Mayor to communicate with the residents of Mantsopa but is used for ANC politicking instead.

Residents are often promised improvements and services during these Imbizos, only to see little to no follow-through once the event is over. This has led to growing frustration and scepticism among the community towards the motives behind these gatherings.

These imbizos purportedly focus on delivering services to the communities within the municipality. However, service delivery should be an ongoing priority, integral to the municipality’s function. This prompts inquiry into the timing of these imbizos, especially in such proximity to the elections. It appears that public funds are being misappropriated for ANC campaigning purposes.

Additionally, the use of non-standard municipality colours in the infographics announcing these imbizos is concerning. This subtle manipulation cannot be overlooked. The community must recognise that allowing the ANC to remain in power will perpetuate past abuses.

We will address this matter with the council and the Speaker, pressing for a formal investigation into the expenditure associated with these events and their compliance with the councillors’ code of conduct.

The DA implores all voters to put an end to such abuses by voting for the DA in the forthcoming elections on the 29th of May.
