The DA in Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality is appalled by the health risks that the ANC-led municipality’s poor management has brought about in Thaba Nchu.

The municipality has not yet offered an explanation or a solution for the issue of so-called “VIP” toilets in Thaba Nchu, despite repeated Rule 38 questions. The toilets were built more than ten years ago, and as a result of soil build-up within, they are prone to flooding. The circumstance has gotten worse as a result of the recent summer rains and heat wave. These toilets are a breeding ground for disease and a health risk.

Municipal officials have argued that they cannot provide services to the over 64 000 residents with only two vehicles, but their appeals to the authorities have been ignored. After making a big deal out of installing dysfunctional restrooms at Moroka 27 and Seleseha extension, the ANC has now forgotten about the citizens of Thaba Nchu. The community has been left with the dilemma of sharing toilets that is if the neighbour will allow it.

The DA Caucus in Mangaung stands against the indignity, ill-treatment, and health risks that the ANC-led Metro has put our people through. We will continue to fight and hold the municipality accountable. The DA is committed to change across the country and therefore urges all residents to register to vote in the 2024 National and Provincial Government elections.
