Issued by Willie Theunissen – DA Councillor Dihlabeng Local Municipality
24 Nov 2022 in Press Statements

The DA in Dihlabeng Local Municipality is relieved that the process of appointing an acting municipal manager has been finalized.

The Council on 22 November 2022 supported the EXCO secondment, appointment, and the process to get the acting MM in office to start immediately. Together with the appointment of the MM, the DA requested that a performance management agreement be included in his employment contract to hold him accountable as long as he is acting as the MM of the municipality.

Additionally, Kgathatso Vincent Mokhele was appointed as the acting Chief Financial officer as well as all the vacant Director positions were filled. We will push for the acting positions to be advertised as soon as possible to help with stability in the municipality.

Unfortunately, the progress report on the Section 106 investigation calling for the MEC of COGTA to investigate allegations that border on fraud, corruption, maladministration, or nepotism was once again postponed due to the MEC having to report to the executives first.

The DA is looking forward to receiving the report and ensuring that all terms of reference are duly investigated as agreed upon and resolved by the council. We will monitor the situation closely and ensure that the performance agreement is sufficient to hold the acting MM accountable.
