– ANC instructs Mayor to step aside.
– DA welcomes accountability and due process.
– Residents deserve governance focused on service delivery.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) will intensify its oversight of the Tswelopele Local Municipality and continue to hold all public representatives accountable, following reports that the ANC has instructed Mayor Kenalemang Phukuntse to step aside in light of criminal charges and allegations against her.
Elected officials are entrusted with serving communities with integrity, transparency, and respect for the rule of law. When serious allegations arise, due process must be allowed to take its course without interference.
For a considerable period, the DA has raised concerns about the Mayor’s conduct and leadership style, and the negative impact these issues have had on the functioning of Tswelopele Local Municipality. The municipality continues to face serious service delivery challenges, deteriorating infrastructure, and growing public frustration. Residents deserve leaders who focus on governance and service delivery rather than becoming embroiled in controversy.
The DA remains committed to ensuring that Tswelopele residents receive the effective, transparent, and accountable government they deserve. We will continue to exercise oversight and hold all public representatives accountable, regardless of political affiliation.
The people of Tswelopele deserve leadership that places their interests first.
