The DA Mangaung Caucus has taken firm action by meeting with the Centlec CEO and senior representatives to secure urgent steps to resolve the ongoing electricity crisis affecting communities across the metro.

The meeting focused on finding urgent solutions to the frequent power outages, infrastructure faults, and communication breakdowns that have plagued our residents. Key discussion points included:

  1. The impact of outages on communities and the need for improved response times
  2. Identifying and addressing infrastructure faults and challenges.
  3. Enhancing communication channels for updates and fault reporting.
  4. Strategies for stabilising the network and introducing redundancy.
  5. Staff and vehicle availability during outages and disaster planning.
  6. Addressing vandalism and security concerns.

The DA emphasised the urgent need for Centlec to address the current crisis and develop robust emergency and contingency plans to mitigate the impact of future outages.

The discussion highlighted the importance of:

  • Implementing a reliable communication system for outage notifications and updates.
  • Deploying sufficient staff and resources to respond to emergencies.
  • Prioritising infrastructure maintenance and upgrades.

Centlec’s willingness to engage with us is a positive step, but words are not enough. We expect concrete actions and tangible improvements in the coming weeks. The people of Mangaung deserve reliable electricity.

The DA Mangaung Caucus remains committed to holding Centlec accountable for delivering efficient and reliable electricity services to our communities.
