The Democratic Alliance (DA) will continue to conduct rigorous oversight of housing projects in Dihlabeng Municipality to hold contractors and municipal officials accountable, and to ensure that residents receive their homes safely, on time, and to the standard promised. We will demand progress reports, enforce quality standards, and keep communities informed about developments in the Human Settlements Department.

Following an oversight conducted by Cllr Lucas Xaba, the DA has identified serious concerns across multiple housing projects. Unfinished work left by previous contractors has caused unacceptable delays, leaving beneficiaries waiting longer than necessary to receive their homes. Oversight visits to three towns revealed poor-quality construction, with foundations that fail to meet basic standards, windows improperly installed, and fittings, such as door handles, already broken in completed units.

In Mautse’s Metati section, construction is proceeding at a slow pace. Communities have expressed deep concern about when their homes will be finished. At the time of oversight, the contractor had vacated the site, although a new contractor has reportedly been appointed to complete the unfinished houses. In Fateng tse Ntsho, the sewer system installation remains incomplete. Security personnel on site report that they have not been informed if the service provider will return, and several pipes were improperly connected or installed in shallow trenches.

Additional projects across Bohlokong, including Extension 2/Ditsheng, Bakenpark, and Vogelfontein Extension 7, show mixed progress. While some foundations and slabs have been completed, other sites have stalled, with paving neglected and weeds overtaking roads, leaving residents frustrated and inconvenienced.

The DA will continue its oversight to enforce accountability, ensure cooperative governance, and demand that Dihlabeng residents receive effective service delivery that meets both legislative and community expectations.
