The DA regards the ANC Dihlabeng Caucus’s decision not to implement a Labour Court judgment within 30 days of the Judgement as contempt.

Five municipal workers took Dihlabeng Municipality to court for having served on a contract basis for almost 15 years; they were contractual municipal workers in a case that then contributed to irregular contracts and expenditure.

The judgment orders the municipality to comply with the arbitration award by ensuring that an endorsement is obtained from the Municipal Council and that the Staff Establishment is updated.

The DA caucus successfully persuaded all opposition parties in Council to vote in favour of supporting the court judgment to accommodate the workers in the staff establishment.

This achievement highlights the DA’s ability to foster unity and cross-party cooperation.

In contrast, the ANC Caucus continues to mislead the Council by misrepresenting the facts and attempting to delay implementation of a court order that will result in further irregular expenditure. The municipality spends over 3 million per month on salaries considered irregular.

The DA supports the rule of law and will cooperate with opposition parties that share our opinions on council agenda items, our commitment to improved services and sound governance.

The decisions of the DA Dihlabeng Caucus are grounded in legality and sound governance.
