The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Dihlabeng has written to the municipal manager regarding the poor and rapidly deteriorating condition of roads in Fateng, which continues to negatively affect residents, businesses, and overall service delivery in the area.

For far too long, the community of Fateng has been subjected to unacceptable road conditions, including potholes, gravel erosion, and in some instances, roads that have become completely inaccessible. This situation not only disrupts daily life but also poses a serious safety risk to motorists, pedestrians, and emergency services.

Residents are increasingly frustrated by the lack of proper road maintenance, which continues to damage vehicles, increase transport costs, and limit access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and local economic opportunities.

The DA notes with concern:

  • The municipality’s failure to maintain and repair critical road infrastructure.
  • The growing number of potholes and damaged road surfaces.
  • Poor stormwater drainage contributing to further road degradation.
  • The absence of visible intervention despite ongoing community complaints.

The continued neglect of road infrastructure in Fateng reflects a broader failure in service delivery and a lack of accountability by the municipality.

The DA calls on the municipality to urgently assess the condition of all roads in Fateng, prioritise repairs, allocate an adequate budget for road maintenance, implement a sustainable road maintenance plan, and provide the community with clear timelines for when these repairs will be completed.

Communities deserve safe, reliable, and accessible roads. The DA will continue to advocate for residents and ensure that the municipality is held accountable for its failure to deliver basic services.
