The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Tswelopele will write to the acting Municipal Manager to urgently address and repair water leakages that are causing residents to face unnecessary water shedding, despite the Vet River being at full capacity. These leakages deprive the community of reliable water access and increase household costs.
Water leakages remain one of the municipality’s biggest challenges. The DA has repeatedly urged the municipality to fix these leakages, but no meaningful action has been taken. Current estimates indicate that approximately 40% of clean drinking water is lost each month due to leakages.
The consequences of these failures are significant. Residents are forced to endure water shedding not because of a lack of water, but because of poor infrastructure maintenance. In addition, continued water losses place further financial pressure on the municipality, which could ultimately result in higher costs for residents due to maladministration and inefficiency.
Another pressing concern is the delay in responding to burst pipes, which further exacerbates water loss and reduces the municipality’s capacity to provide safe and reliable water to residents.
We will continue to hold the Tswelopele Municipality accountable, push for immediate repairs to all major leakages, and ensure that residents have reliable access to clean water without bearing the cost of administrative failures.
