The ongoing case against Mayor James Tseki Tseki is threatening the credibility of the Dihlabeng Local Municipality.
The DA will continue monitoring the Hawks case against him as he stands accused of alleged irregular involvement and maladministration concerning a pay-out of R250,000 to the Municipal Manager.
We firmly believe there is substantial evidence of improper behaviour by the individuals involved to successfully pursue this case. Unfortunately, the process has been hindered by threats to some witnesses. The Mayor occupies a special office, and transparency is essential for good governance. Effective and efficient performance of all duties within the Municipality relies on transparency and cohesive management.
For over two decades, the DA has warned that cadre deployment would lead to cronyism, corruption, and a captured criminal state. This prediction has manifested in the current symptoms: corruption, financial mismanagement, inadequate financial controls, poor project management, compliance issues, and unreliable reporting—all contributing to deteriorating basic services.
Organisations aspiring to good governance must consistently demonstrate accountability, sound leadership, integrity, stewardship, and transparency in both word and deed. One of the DA government’s first priorities will be to establish an effective, professional, and merit-based public service system focused solely on delivering quality services to all South Africans.
We are committed to bringing change across the country and therefore urge all residents to vote in the 2024 National and Provincial Government elections on 29 May.
