Residents of Kgotsong are enduring appalling and perilous living conditions due to rampant sewage spillage in the streets of Nala Local Municipality. Over the years, this issue has escalated alarmingly, primarily attributed to inadequate maintenance and ageing infrastructure. Blocked sewerage pipes have transformed streets into streams of sewage, posing grave health risks to residents exposed to putrid odours and even human waste in their daily lives. Please see pictures here, here, here and here.

Following the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and service delivery budget, the Democratic Alliance (DA) commits to setting clear objectives and achievable targets for the maintenance and proper functioning of sewerage systems in each ward of Kgotsong. We will articulate comprehensive strategies and concrete actions to ensure the realisation of functional sewerage systems across the area and submit it to the council.

These deplorable conditions, indicative of the ANC government’s failures over the past three decades, undermine residents’ rights to a decent standard of living. Under a DA-led government, consistent maintenance and effective service delivery will be paramount. We pledge to elevate the living standards of Kgotsong’s community, fostering a healthier and safer environment.

A core focus of the DA’s agenda will be the establishment of a professional and meritocratic public service, dedicated solely to delivering high-quality services to all South Africans. We urge Kgotsong residents to exercise their voting rights wisely in the upcoming elections and embrace the opportunity for change.
