The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Kopanong Local Municipality has submitted a formal complaint to the Speaker, Morekiemang Moitse, to investigate the troubling actions of ANC Mayor and Councillor Xolani Tseletsele. The complaint follows the Mayor’s actions when he confronted a community member and berated him as reported.
In line with the Local Government: Municipal Structures Act, 1998 (Act no. 117 of 1998), Code of Conduct for Councillors Regulations, Schedule 7, Cllr Xolani Tseletsele is duty-bound to uphold specific principles.
It is with deep concern that he is purported to breach these principles to at all time act in the best interest of the municipality and in such a way that the credibility and integrity of the municipality are not compromised. Our attention has been drawn to behaviour that contradicts the stipulated provisions, particularly concerning his duty to act in the municipality’s best interest and preserve its credibility and integrity.
Our primary concern revolves around an incident involving the alleged intimidation of a community member in Kopanong. If validated, such actions betray the trust placed in elected officials and erode the democratic principles upon which our municipality stands.
Given the gravity of these allegations, we have formally requested an immediate investigation into the conduct of Cllr Xolani Tseletsele. A thorough and impartial examination of the facts is imperative to establish the truth of the claims and uphold the conduct standards expected of elected officials.
The speaker’s office has confirmed the receipt of this formal complaint. We commit to actively cooperate with the investigation and urge the swift resolution of this matter to restore public trust in the municipality.
