27 Jan 2023 in Press Statements

On Saturday 28 January, the DA in the Free State will be convening its 2023 Provincial Congress.

Our historic mission is to establish, for the first time in our history, a fair society that will enable the South African people to unleash their talents and ingenuity to realise their full potential. We call this the Open, Opportunity Society for All.

After the successful completion of 136 Branch annual general meetings and 11 Constituency annual general meetings, we have the opportunity to lead the DA in another successful Provincial Congress. During the congress, delegates from across the province will decide on the members to lead into 2023 and the 2024 general elections. The provincial leadership positions to be elected are:

  • Provincial Leader;
  • Provincial Chairperson;
  • Deputy Provincial Chairperson; and
  • Provincial Finance Chairperson

Furthermore, congress will vote on and approve new resolutions and amendments aimed at improving the DA’s ability to be an effective force for change. Currently, over 7 million South Africans across the country experience some form of DA governance where they live and the Free State will be the next.

The congress will be attended by the Federal Leader, John Steenhuisen, Deputy Federal Chairperson, Refiloe Nt’sekhe, Chairperson of the Federal Council, Helen Zille, Free State Provincial Leader Dr Roy Jankielsohn, the Free State Provincial Chairperson, Werner Horn and also attended by Members of Parliament, Members of the Free State Legislature, Local Councillors and nearly 300 delegates.
