The DA remains committed to serving the residents of Ward 9 and ensuring that community concerns are heard, escalated and followed up.

During an oversight visit, the DA highlighted several issues requiring urgent attention, including water leakages and faulty water meters. About four properties had either a broken water meter tap, meters that do not close properly or completely broken meters resulting in water leakages.

The DA has escalated these matters to the municipality and will continue monitoring progress until the necessary repairs are undertaken. One household has reportedly been without an electricity supply since 2010.

The DA believes that residents cannot be expected to live for years without access to basic services. The circumstances surrounding this matter must be investigated, and a clear solution and timeframe provided to the affected household.

The oversight visit also identified a continuing need for RDP/BNG housing to residents in the area.

In addition, assistance is required with title-deed matters with two properties. The DA has written to the provincial department of Human Settlements to ensure that qualifying residents receive assistance and that outstanding title-deed matters are properly investigated.

Residents also identified damage to paving and potholes on Mohaladitwe Street.

Residents further raised concerns regarding the lack of household dustbins. Proper waste-management infrastructure is essential for maintaining clean, safe and healthy communities.

These matters have been included in the service-delivery oversight process for the relevant municipal departments’ attention.

The DA’s approach to Ward 9 is clear: Listen to residents, identify problems, escalate them to the responsible authorities and follow up until residents receive answers and, where possible, solutions.

Service delivery cannot be reduced to promises made during election periods. Residents deserve representatives who remain visible and accountable throughout the term of office.

The DA will continue to stand with the residents of Ward 9. Our oversight visits focus on identifying the real problems affecting people’s daily lives and ensuring those problems are brought directly to the attention of the responsible authorities.

We will follow up because the people of Motsekuwa deserve proper services, accountability and responsive government.

The DA’s 2026 Local Government Manifesto commits to ringfencing water revenue for water infrastructure, maintaining treatment facilities and ensuring that municipalities invest in the systems that keep taps running.

Dihlabeng residents cannot be expected to endure months without a functioning water treatment plant because of municipal incompetence.

The work continues. The DA will continue to serve Ward 9.
