During an oversight visit to section 11 and 12 in Ward 19, Nyakallong Allanridge, residents complained about not having water in their taps for more than 10 years due to a pressure problem. Since then a water truck delivers about 100 liters of water per household for the week, if the drum, bucket or bottles are outside when the truck is passing through the area.
Residents have to wash, do washing, flush the toilet and still cook with only about 100 liters of water. If no receptacle is left for the truck to fill that house is skipped and the household will be left without water or will have to purchase water in town and transport it home at great expense, on the very bad roads laced with potholes and sewer spills. Many of the Residents are elderly and cannot carry the drums into their houses and must then wait for people in the street to assist.
Residents says that they have reported it to their ANC Councillor since the beginning but he has done nothing for their plight. He does not even report back to them when they have serious service delivery problems, although he resides in Nyakallong itself.
The Democratic Alliance in Matjhabeng will write to the Municipal Manager, Director Technical Services and Vaal Central Water to request assistance in investigating the pressure problem in the area. Furthermore a request will be submitted to request Ministerial Infrastructure Grant Funds (MIG) to assist with installation of booster pumps if the investigation requires it.
A letter will also be written to the Human Rights Commission to investigate the matter in terms of section 27 of the Constitution.
Residents of sections 11 and 12 of Nyakallong deserves better. After all water is a human right. Residents must please vote DA on 4 November 2026 if they want their lives to change. Together we can make Matjhabeng work again.
