The Democratic Alliance (DA) will submit written questions to the Executive Mayor following today’s oversight visit to Ward 22 in Thabong, Welkom, to establish why Matjhabeng has failed to maintain its road infrastructure and basic service delivery.
An oversight visit to Ward 22 in Thabong, Welkom, showed roads are wholly inaccessible. This lack of basic service delivery is just one symptom of the ANC’s inability to govern Matjhabeng.
Currently, the entire city has only one grader, which is broken. In addition, we understand that mechanics to fix this grader have not yet been appointed, and there is not enough diesel for this fleet. This effectively means that under the ANC, communities will have to wait much longer to see their roads fixed.
Reliable road infrastructure is not only a basic service that the community is entitled to, but it also has a serious effect on investment in the area, costing us jobs. Who would want to live, work, or invest in a city where you cannot access the roads?
We want to know how much has been budgeted to expand the yellow fleet, and how much has been budgeted to ensure that these vehicles have sufficient fuel to do their job.
Matjhabeng under the ANC has been spending tax money on the wrong things, instead of prioritising service delivery. A DA-run municipality, in contrast, will ensure that service delivery is put at the centre of everything we do. It is time to get Matjhabeng working.
