The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Nketoana has written to the MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, urging the reopening of the Lindley Library after months of closure. Residents are in limbo about the reasons for closure, and we are now demanding that it be reopened to the public. The library has been closed since October 2025.

During its closure, residents, especially learners, have had no access to books, the internet, and other study facilities. No interim plans were put in place to mitigate the impact of this closure.

Public libraries are not a luxury. They provide access to information, educational support for learners and internet connectivity for job seekers.

We demand that the library be reopened and that any maintenance work be carried out promptly to ensure it reopens in time before the midyear exams, allowing learners to use it for research and studies. We demand clear timeframes for reopening.

We will keep residents informed about the MEC’s response. Our community deserves better. We cannot allow such an important institution to remain inaccessible without accountability and urgency.

The DA remains committed to lifelong learning and development.
