The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Moqhaka will intensify oversight and hold the newly elected Mayor, Ramasimong Tau, and the new Speaker, Nthabiseng Magengenene, accountable to ensure improved service delivery and responsible governance across the municipality.
Following the resignation of the former Mayor and Speaker, the election of new leadership was long overdue. Their resignations came amid increasing pressure from the Democratic Alliance over the ANC’s lack of capacity to govern effectively, as well as internal ANC instructions and pressure for leadership changes.
While the DA will support any effort that benefits residents and improves service delivery, we remain deeply concerned about the continued decline of basic municipal services affecting communities across Moqhaka.
The DA is sceptical that the duo will turn the state of Moqhaka around as we head to the polls on 4 November 2026. We are confident that residents will mandate the DA to lead the municipality following the local government elections. In his inaugural speech, the newly elected Mayor admitted the ANC’s failure in infrastructure development, including the absence of basic services and a lack of leadership.
On the day of their election, residents of Maokeng were left without water, while refuse removal services were not carried out. This is a clear indication that the ANC has failed in its mandate to govern effectively and deliver basic services.
The DA calls on residents of Moqhaka to vote for a DA-led government committed to restoring dignity, improving infrastructure, and ensuring reliable service delivery for every community.
