The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Letsemeng takes note of the resignations submitted by Bonolo Mocwaledi, Mayor and Councillor of the Letsemeng Local Municipal Council, and by Xolani Hani Mthukwane, Speaker, and notes that he will still be the Ward Councillor for Ward 4 in Letsemeng.
The process of replacing the mayor was not completed today, as an adjournment was called to allow the ANC to complete the procedures at the IEC (Independent Electoral Commission).
The newly elected Speaker, Cllr. Jessie Khumalo is committed to continuing the meetings over the next 7 days to complete the process of electing a new mayor in the council after the swearing-in of the new PR councillor.
We will hold the newly elected Speaker to his word for the sake of stability within the municipality. This process must not cause service delivery delays in Letsemeng Local Municipality.
Since June 2025, the Chairpersons of the Technical and Corporate committees have not tabled any reports to the Executive Mayoral Committee, and the Community Services Department’s reports have been ignored and added to previous agendas.
The DA will keep the pressure and ensure that these important reports, which will improve service delivery in the municipality, are tabled urgently, and that by-laws are sent for public participation.
The Speaker promised that he will allow all councillors to represent the constituencies they serve, regardless of political party.
The DA will hold him to that commitment to ensure he serves the Letsemeng Council in the interest of the residents of Letsemeng.
