The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Mangaung will escalate the ongoing failure of the Speaker and Chief Whip to enforce adherence to Council-adopted committee meeting schedules to ensure accountability and restore proper oversight within the municipality.

These schedules were passed as binding resolutions to ensure oversight, transparency, and monitoring of service delivery. Their neglect is not a minor administrative lapse; it is a direct violation of Council authority and a betrayal of the residents we serve.

Consequences of non-compliance:

  • Oversight paralysis: Section 79 and Section 80 committees cannot fulfil their mandates.
  • Service delivery collapse: Transport safety, infrastructure, and governance failures multiply

    unchecked.

  • Public trust erosion: Residents lose faith when councillors draw salaries while committees fail to meet.

The DA calls for:

  1. Immediate compliance report comparing scheduled versus actual committee sittings.
  2. Written undertakings from the Speaker and Whip to enforce monthly sittings without exception.
  3. Consequence management should prevent further non-compliance.

Accountability is non-negotiable, and compliance with adopted schedules is mandatory.

Residents of Mangaung deserve a Council that works, not one that shirks its responsibilities.
