The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Moqhaka has submitted an urgent letter to the Municipal Manager requesting immediate intervention and practical solutions to restore water supply to residents in Rammulotsi and Viljoenskroon, following taps running dry in the early hours of Thursday, 12 March.

The current crisis appears to have been triggered by the lapse of a contract with service providers responsible for supplying wet fuel to the municipality’s fleet.

Municipal workers cannot report for duty at the water treatment plants, located approximately 20 km outside Rammulotsi and Viljoenskroon. As a result, residents are left stranded and frustrated.

This situation is unacceptable and violates residents’ constitutional rights. It affects all of Rammulotsi and Viljoenskroon, including those reliant on water tankers, as the feeding pump currently has no water.

The DA attempted to contact the municipal manager before the close of business on Friday, but these efforts were unsuccessful.

This situation has not been resolved to date.

We are calling on residents to punish the ANC in the 2026 local government election. We will fight this matter as water is a basic need for our communities.
