The Democratic Alliance (DA) notes with serious concern the ongoing operational challenges at the Koppies Driving Licence Testing Centre.

During 2025, certain personnel at the centre were suspended, significantly affecting service delivery. As a result, the centre has been operating with limited capacity.

An interim arrangement was made for a clerk from Sasolburg to assist at Koppies. However, due to the high travelling costs involved, this solution has proven financially unsustainable and has not resolved the staffing crisis.

Furthermore, since January 2026, the Koppies Traffic Department has reportedly been without the official “green paper” required to print driving licence cards. For approximately two months, residents have been unable to have their driving licences printed at the centre. Currently, only limited services are being rendered.

The DA believes this situation is unacceptable and continues to place an unfair burden on residents of Koppies and surrounding areas, who are now forced to travel to other towns to access basic services.

The DA will:

  • Submit formal oversight questions to the relevant authorities regarding staffing and procurement delays.
  • Request a clear timeline for the resolution of the green paper shortage.
  • Monitor the progress of internal disciplinary processes impacting staffing capacity.
  • Engage district and provincial authorities to ensure urgent intervention and restoration of full services.

Residents deserve efficient, accessible, and properly managed public services. The DA will continue to hold the responsible authorities accountable until full service delivery is restored.
