The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Heilbron, Ngwathe Municipality, will take immediate action by writing to the newly appointed Community Services Director to demand an urgent, detailed road-repair programme for the town. After nearly a year of unanswered letters to the accounting officer, the continued failure to repair unsafe and severely damaged streets is placing residents, motorists, and public transport operators at serious risk.
As the rainy season worsens the condition of already broken roads, the community continues to suffer the consequences of the municipality’s neglect.
Letters were written to the accounting officer, and no response or communication whatsoever was received. With us in the rainy season and more damage to our already broken streets, something has to be done urgently to get some repairs done.
Motorists and public transport (taxi) drivers have to bear the burden of using the pothole-ridden streets in and around Heilbron. We have Sandersville, where the main street is full of potholes, and motorists have been using alternative roads, but those roads are now even more challenging to access.
No repairs – all cries were ignored! Phiritona, Lennon Street, which is the main road, is in the same condition. Potholes as big as a basin. Heilbron Town, Vegkop and even streets in the business area are not being fixed.
This is unacceptable, and we can’t continue like this. Action needs to be taken immediately.
We have people on the municipality’s payroll who are supposed to maintain our roads, but it looks like they’re getting paid for doing nothing.
Why do our residents have to sit and endure the municipality’s failure when it comes to this vital service delivery issue?
Heilbron is also part of Ngwathe, and attention and service delivery must be given here as well. We are tired of asking for interventions and pressure to have our roads fixed.
